What is Murga Porteña?
Murga is one of the richest artistic expressions of our popular culture, combining singing, dancing, percussion, theater, and poetry. The main instrument is the bass drum with cymbals. The lyrics of their songs and recitations convey a critical perspective on social aspects and aim to keep the memory of the neighborhoods alive. The costumes are like the murguero's skin, shouting their feelings through glitter and embroidery. Throughout the year, murgas organize different performances and activities for charitable causes. In February, they parade, becoming the main protagonists of the Porteño Carnival, flooding the streets with rhythms, colors, and joy.
